What Is NPD And ReceiptPal?
The NPD Group, Inc. and its corporate affiliates (“NPD”) provide consumer and retail information and insights for a wide range of industries. We have been conducting market research for over 50 years. Our clients encompass over 2,000 businesses, including many Fortune 500 companies. ReceiptPal is NPD’s consumer receipt panel. In exchange for their participation, panelists have the opportunity to earn points for rewards as well as have their receipt information digitally organized to allow for easy look-up and analysis.
How Do You Access ReceiptPal?
You may access ReceiptPal at our website www.receiptpalapp.com or a successor site (the “Site”) or as a user of our mobile application (the “App”).
NPD Is Committed To Protecting Your Privacy
In addition to being a committed leader in market research, we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your information. This Privacy Notice describes our privacy practices (“Notice”), including how NPD collects, protects, uses, and shares your personal and demographic information. By visiting the Site, using or downloading the App, or using any of our services, you agree that your information, including your, Personal Information may be handled as described in this Notice. Please also read our Terms of Service (the “Terms of Service”), which also apply and are incorporated by reference into this Notice.
Anyone can participate in ReceiptPal but to access certain features of our App – specifically the ability to redeem points and prizes and other participation incentives – you must first complete our member registration, which requires you to provide your email address and birth month and year. We may send you an email if we need further validation of your email address. We also may request additional optional information from you, for example your name; date of birth; gender, zip code, cell phone number; race and ethnic origin; household income; household size; age of children living with you; and education; however, you are not required to provide us with this information to participate in ReceiptPal. We will retain Personal Information for as long as you continue to be a member of ReceiptPal.
What is Personal Information?
Personal Information means information that directly identifies you or that may reasonably be used to identify you as a specific individual (“Personal Information”).

Information That You Submit to NPD
1. Personal Information
In order to register to become a member of the ReceiptPal, you must first complete our registration form. This requires you to provide certain information (e.g., email address, month and year of birth). In addition, we may request you to provide your name, date of birth, gender, zip code, and cell phone number.
2. Demographic Information
We may also ask you to provide certain demographic information (e.g., household size, number of children in the household, education).
3. Survey Responses
Our App may request permission to send you emails containing links to surveys in which we would like you to participate, and may also present you with surveys within the App itself. Survey questions may ask you about things such as purchases you have made and your opinions about products or services. If you participate in these surveys, we will collect your answers to the surveys.
4. Receipt Information
When we reference receipts in this Privacy Notice, we mean receipts of any kind (physical or electronic) and also online order confirmations or other online purchase information. You submit purchase transaction information from your receipts (the “Receipt Information”) as follows: (i) receipts that you submit through our App; and (ii) e-receipts, from your email account(s), that you actively forward to us. Receipt Information includes, for example, details of what was purchased, the merchant from which the goods/services were purchased, any loyalty card information on the receipt, the transaction amount and the date of purchase. However, while it may be on a receipt, we do not need or want any information regarding your credit card or other payment method that may appear, even in truncated form. Please do not submit receipts that contain medical, pharmaceutical or other health information, or receipts containing the entire credit or debit card account number.
Receipt Information That You Permit NPD To Collect
If you have opted in to automated email or other online account collection, with this permission we will obtain your Receipt Information automatically and directly from your email or other online account. When you grant us access to your emails or other online account information, we will collect information about your future purchases and also your historical purchases dating back to as early as January 1, 2016. We may also collect your name and shipping address. You can revoke our access to your email account or other online account at any time by visiting the Accounts page in your ReceiptPal app.
Automatically Tracked Data
We may collect information automatically through your use of the App, such as: mobile device ID; device name and model; carrier name; operating system type, name, and version; your IP address; your browser type; your domain name; the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to our App; and your access time and page views. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you.
2. Web Beacons
We reserve the right to use web beacons, which are small graphic images or other web programming code (also known as "1x1 GIFs" or "clear GIFs"), in our services. Web beacons may be invisible to you, but any electronic image or other web programming code inserted into a page or email can act as a web beacon. Web beacons or similar technologies may be used for a number of purposes, including, without limitation, to count visitors to our Site, to monitor how users navigate our Site, to count how many emails that were sent were actually opened or to count how many particular links were actually viewed.
Information We Collect From Third Parties
We will collect Receipt Information from the merchants in the cases where you have provided us with access to an online account.
We may receive information about you from third party companies that specialize in collecting publicly available information. This may include estimated demographic information and information from public registers, such as the electoral register.
We may receive information about you from other sources. This may include demographic information from data collection companies and others in order for us to offer anonymous market research reports to clients and partners.
We may link information about you that we collect from these third parties with other information that we collect about you.
How We Use Your Information
We may use your Personal Information for the following purposes:
To provide our App and services to you, to communicate with you about your use of our services, to respond to your inquiries, and for other customer service and account management purposes.
For notifications and reminders. For example, we may use your information, such as your email address, to send you reminders to submit receipts, for special offers, and promotions, or to otherwise contact you about information we think may interest you.
To fulfill rewards and administer our rewards program.
To tailor the content and information that we may send or display to you, and personalized help and instructions, and to otherwise personalize your experience while using the App or our services.
To better understand how users access and use our App and services, both on an aggregated and individualized basis, in order to improve our App and services and respond to user desires and preferences, and for other NPD research and analytical purposes.
Generally in our market research business to help clients and commercial partners better understand consumer behavior.
To comply with federal, state or other applicable laws and regulations.
To the extent we deem it necessary or appropriate, to enforce or apply our rights under our agreement with our users, and/or protect the property, rights or safety of our users, NPD, or others.
How We Share Your Information
We may share your information, including your Personal Information, as follows:
We may disclose the information we collect from you to third party vendors, technology and other service providers, contractors or agents who perform functions on our behalf, or are engaged with us. For example, we use service providers to help us fulfill our contests and sweepstakes, and to extract and process the Receipt Information from receipts. These service providers are allowed to access and use the information we make available to them only as needed to perform their functions and for no other purposes.
Commercial Partners and Other Third Parties.
(a) In connection with our business, we may disclose demographic information (e.g., gender, household size, and number of children) to commercial partners and other third parties in either single or aggregate summary form and may also provide other aggregate or de-identified information to such third parties. Singular summary includes demographic information about a person without specifically identifying the person. For example, this summary does not contain Personal Information such as an email address, nor does the combination of demographic information make it readily possible to identify the person. Aggregate summary includes demographic information about a group of persons without specifically identifying any person within the group; or (b) We may also provide your information, including your Receipt Information and your Personal Information, to commercial partners and other third parties, such as retailers or brands, for marketing research and analytics purposes (for example, to create models that estimate consumer preferences in the total population or to inform market segments). In that case, we will take steps designed to ensure that your Personal Information is handled securely and is treated at least as protectively as under this Privacy Notice. We will not, however, allow such third parties to use this information for the purposes of individually marketing to you or to contact you.

How Do You Opt Out?
We may disclose the information we collect from you to our corporate affiliates or subsidiaries; however, if we do so, their use and disclosure of your Personal Information will be subject to this Notice.
If we are acquired by or merged with another company, if substantially all of our assets are transferred to another company, or as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other company.
In Response To Legal Process.
We also may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a legal proceeding, court order, or other legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena.
To Protect Us And Others.
We also may disclose the information we collect from you where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Service or this Notice, or as evidence in litigation in which NPD is involved.
Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests.
Third Party Analytics
Our Site and services may contain links to third-party websites. Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Notice, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third party websites. We are not responsible for the information practices of such third party websites.
How Do We Protect Your Personal Information?
NPD complies with its legal obligations, when applicable, by keeping Personal Information up to date; by storing it securely; by not collecting or retaining excessive amounts of Personal Information; by protecting Personal Information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access and disclosure and by employing physical, technical and administrative protections and procedures to help prevent unauthorized access to, disclosure, misuse, or loss of the data collected on the App and through our service, in accordance with generally accepted, appropriate standards in the research industry. The data is stored on secure servers, and only specific, authorized personnel have access to non-aggregated data. Such personnel work on password-protected computers and are subject to confidentiality and security policies and procedures. The security technology is updated and tested on an on-going basis. In addition, we train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of member information. Please be aware that despite our efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security. You should take steps to protect against unauthorized access to your password, phone, and computer by, among other things, signing off after using a shared computer, choosing a robust password that nobody else knows or can easily guess, and keeping your log-in and password private. We are not responsible for any lost, stolen, or compromised passwords or for any activity on your account via unauthorized password activity. Where Do We Store Your Information?
Your information may be stored and processed on our servers in the United States. In addition, any of our corporate affiliates or third parties to whom your information is provided (as described in this Privacy Notice) may be located in another country.
Does NPD Collect Information From Minors?
We comply with all applicable laws and codes pertaining to the protection of children’s privacy, including, without limitation, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (as amended). We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from participants who are under the age of 16. If you are under 16 years old, you may not participate in ReceiptPal. If we become aware that we inadvertently collected Personal Information from anyone under the age of 16 or if you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 16 has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will promptly delete such Personal Information and will terminate the account from our databases.
How Do You Opt Out?
To opt-out of emails, please follow the opt-out instructions contained in the email or send an email to email@example.com. If you opt-out of receiving emails about recommendations or other information we think may interest you, we may still send you emails about your account or any services you have requested or received from us. Please note that it may take up to 10 business days for us to process opt-out requests.

Changes To This Notice
This Notice is current as of the Effective Date set forth above. We may change this Notice from time to time, so please be sure to check back periodically. We will post any changes to this Notice on our Site as well as make it available through the App. If we make any changes to this Notice that materially affect our practices with regard to the Personal Information we have previously collected from you, we will provide you with notice in advance of such change by pushing a notice to the App or by sending you an email at the address you have provided.

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) requires ReceiptPal to provide California consumers with the following information about how we process their personal information and the rights available to them with respect to their information.
Categories of Personal Information that We Collect, Disclose, and Sell
The categories of personal information about California consumers that we have collected and disclosed in the preceding 12 months for a business purpose are as follows:
NAME, CONTACT INFORMATION AND IDENTIFIERS: name, postal address, unique personal identifier (ReceiptPal ID number), online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, or other similar identifiers.
CUSTOMER RECORDS: paper and electronic customer records containing personal information, collected for account management and the rewards program, such as name, signature, address, or telephone number.
PROTECTED CLASSIFICATIONS: characteristics of protected classifications under California or federal law such as race, gender, or age.
PURCHASE HISTORY AND TENDENCIES: commercial information including products or services purchased, or obtained, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.
USAGE DATA: internet or other electronic network activity information, including, but not limited to, information regarding a consumer’s interaction with the Site or the App.
EDUCATION INFORMATION: information about level of education

You have the right to make the following requests, at no charge, up to twice every 12 months:
Submitting Requests. You can submit requests for access to and deletion of your information online by filling our Request Forms here, or by contacting us at 833-775-0019 (toll free). All requests must be verifiable in accordance with the CCPA.
- Request a copy of the specific pieces of personal information that we have collected about you in the prior 12 months.
- Request deletion of your personal information that we have collected about you, subject to certain exemptions.
- Request that we disclose what personal information we collect, use and sell.

Incentives and Discrimination. We offer financial incentives in return for the sharing of your data. The incentives we offer are financial rewards in exchange for the disclosure of certain information we collect directly from you (stated above), as well as from your receipts that you voluntarily upload to us. We will not discriminate against you if you exercise your CCPA rights.
B. Shine the Light Law. California residents may request a list of certain third parties to which we have disclosed personally identifiable information about you for their own direct marketing purposes. You may make one request per calendar year. In your request, please attest to the fact that you are a California resident and provide a current California address for your response.
